Art, comics, graphic design and web development by the artist: Matthew Taylor
Fractals are infinitely complex images made by quite simple mathematical equations. You can spend an eternity zooming down into them discovering the most amazing pictures.
There is an art to creating good fractal images. It's not just about focusing in on an interesting shape; it's so much more than that. In a way it's a lot like photography; framing of the image is very important as too are the colour choices. It's amazing just how different a fractal can look just by changing these two factors.
Exploring fractals is a lot of fun because you never know what you might find. I think that a lot of plants are structured and grow in very fractal-like ways, particularly ferns with their repeating patterns that unfurl out of small shoots.
Creating fractals is easy, just download a copy of Fractal Extreme and you're away.

'Color is crucial in painting, but it is very hard to talk about. There is almost nothing you can say that holds up as a generalization, because it depends on too many factors: size, modulation, the rest of the field, a certain consistency that color has with forms, and the statement you're trying to make.' - Roy Lichtenstein
